I finally got hubby to take of picture of me in my winter white coat I completed before Christmas remember the new project I started because Erica over at Erica B’s D.I.Y. Style? Here is the link to my previous post, but take a look. What do you think?:

Project Details:

Pattern: McCall’s M5711 View B

Fabric: Winter White Basket weave, 100% wool

Lining: Ivory jacquard print- polyester blend

Notions: Four1 1/2″ Ivory Button

I used the size 14 pattern for this pattern and I am glad I did because the sizing ran a bit small on this pattern. To my surprise that pattern and finished product looked like the picture on the pattern.

Likes & Dislikes:

The style was nice for something casual or formal. The only thing that was my pet peeve was the patternmaking was a little off on the sleeve at the shoulder seam, so I had to adjust it a bit. Other than that it was fun to sew with.

Would I sew it again and recommend it to other?

Na. . . I like to have a variety of different styles and I would recommend this to others too.

Erica, thank you so much for inspiring me to sew again. It has been a long time and I can’t believe I stop doing something that I enjoy so much! You are a God send. now I am on the search for that perfect pattern and fabric for my Red wool coat. Stay tune for more sewing. . .

I can not believe that I completed this jacket by last week Thursday and I was able to wear it to the Trail of lights here in Austin, TX even through the weather decided to warm up a bit. I have to said I did a pretty good job considering I haven’t touched my sewing machines in 6 years. That’s a LONG time to not sew!!

What do you all think? I learned some things that I will apply to my next project which I am not too sure I am going to do next, so I will be searching for some inspiration during the holidays and see what comes up for the next year projects. I have always wanted a red coat, so maybe that my be my next project, and maybe I will relearn some tailoring techniques I have learned in the past. Erica help? It has been so long that I will have to find my tailoring books from school, lol.

Later today or maybe tomorrow I will have my hubby take some pictures of me in that jacket with my cute boots my mom purchased last season.

I can not believe I just came from the sewing store and purchase a winter white wool fabric, a McCalls pattern and other notions to start sewing my winter white jacket. I have not sewn in a long, long, LONG time. I used to sew a lot!! As a matter of fact I have a BA is fashion design. You would think I would be sewing all the time, but life sometimes makes us drifts us away sometimes. And then in a short moment you find yourself back to doing what you enjoy the most. What or who inspired me to brush up my sewing skills? Well, when I laid my eyes on Erica B’s D.I.Y. Style I was in heaven.

This girl has some talent for sewing and I love checking her blog out for the latest projects she constructs. What triggered me to sew was when I saw some of her jackets she has made. After sewing them, I was like, I can sew why not start again? So in my head I had always wanted a winter white coat, but not spend too much, right? I just would like to have a coat that can be worn with jeans and that can also be dressed up to. So, as a result, I purchased this pattern M5711:

It was on sale for $1.99!!! The style I will be constructing is letter B. Choice A is awesome, but then I my not always want to wear long sleeves. What do you all think? Go Short and Chic or be a little more practical? With that said, I am dusting off my old sewing machine and serger to get started!! See:
