Earth Day Series: Going Green With Fashion
Posted by: Natasha in Eco Friendly Clothing & AccessoriesEarth Day: is a name used for two different observances, both held annually during spring in the northern hemisphere, and autumn in the southern hemisphere. These are intended to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. The United nations celebrates Earth Day, which was founded by John McConnell in 1969, each year on the March equinox, while a global observance originated by Gaylord nelson as an environmental teach in and since January 1970 also called Earth Day, is celebrated in many countries each year on April 22nd.
Since then there are many companies including the fashion industries coming up with many ways to preserve our environments with eco safe, organic type materials we can use daily. There are also many company’s creating clothing and other items where a precentage of the purchase of their clothes go to support causes like saving the Rainforest. Each week here at Fashioniche there will be posts information on several company you find product to help can our world green.
This week we are featuring:
NIMLI is an online retailer devoted to providing natural, organic, and sustainable lifestyle products while embracing style and aesthetic. Nimli offers clothing, accessories, home décor, beauty products and much more from independent designers who combine their effortless creativity with our environmentally conscious ethics. We offer an array of ecologically friendly products that are natural, organic, recycled, sweatshop-free, and cruelty-free. They are firmly aligned with a lifestyle that cultivates a green conscious mind, body, and soul.
Nimli was founded in New York City in 2003 by entrepreneur Rajat Arora, a vegetarian since early childhood and a keen advocate of an organic way of life free from cruelty. Conscious of the pertinence of preserving the environment, Rajat created Nimli with the vision, hope, and philosophy of making it possible for people to adopt a sustainable lifestyle through an extensive offering of green products and services.
Now, when I was going to browse this website I thought I was going to be bored on the styling of some of the clothing and accessories, but to my surprise going green does not mean sacrificing style. Here are some of my favorites pieces from this site:
The first item by The Battalion is The boudiccara Dress for $196 that is 70% bamboo and 30% organic cotton. I loved the way they sinched it in with a belt! Then there is the Valdemar Top that is same fabrication for $156, and the Isadore Dress for $196. All of these items can be found at NIMLI
The Battalion caters to the fun-loving woman who seeks versatility, comfort, and understated sexy style. Linda and Chrys Wong, the duo behind The Battalion, balance the ideas of their fashion-forward aesthetic with functionality. Linda is an Otis graduate and an accomplished designer who helped launch Chan Luu’s multi-million dollar ready-to-wear line. Chrys is a ten-year retail veteran who has worked at stores such as Maxfield and Barneys New York, developing a keen sense for trends.
After much searching for the perfect jersey fabric, Chrys and Linda discovered that, using new technology, bamboo fiber can be spun into fabric that is soft, strong, and versatile. Bamboo is also a sustainable crop that generates rapidly and is completely biodegradable. Bamboo clothing is not only better for the environment, but also has unique odor-killing and cooling properties that will ultimately be better for the customer. The marketplace has taken notice of The Battalion since its debut. The collection is beginning to build a celebrity fan base including Lucy Liu and Mandy Moore, and has been picked up by some of the best retailers in L.A. including Diavolina and Pixie Market.
Some other items that I am considering purchasing for Earth day are simple:
The bamaboo scoop Neck tee is by Live the Life you Love Clothing for $28, the cute woven tote is by Mad Imports for $72, and the multi nugget charm bracelet is by Kim Alessi for $104 all at Nimli.com. Well, until next week on this series peace out and have a great day!!

Not only is going green one of the hottest tings going on in 2008, but eco-fashion is becoming a pretty popular trend too. It definitely persuaded me to go green. When I found out I could help preserve the earth and look good doing it I was sold! I am officially apart of the green community. Before I was doing little things like recycling and paying my bills online and things of that sort, but now I’m on to bigger and better things. One of the things that I have done recently was switch to bioheat and I love it. Talk about a lifesaver! That’s exactly what it is during the winter time because I need it just as bad as I need my ugg boots. It’s amazing too because it’s non-toxic and made with biodegradable products like soybean oil. It sounds kind of funky but it certainly keeps me from freezing my buns off.
If I didn’t work for NORA I would have never ever been the slightest bit interested in going green. Now I am encouraged to research more about what I can do to help mother earth. I got a lot of really great tips from:

Check it out and see what other kinds of great tips are offered to make your transition as easy as mine was.
